My Personal Notes…
Evangelism Is God’s Message for Every Believer
Foundational Scriptures
- Matthew 28:19 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
- Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
The Heart of Evangelism
- Evangelism often gets a bad name from the way others have misused or misrepresented it.
- People are often more open to spiritual discussions than we assume.
- While religion is declining in the U.S., around 80% of Gen Z is open to spiritual ideas and conversation.
You can engage with people who hold different beliefs without the conversation becoming divisive.
- Evangelism is not all on us. We plant the seeds—God makes them grow.
- 1 Timothy 2:4 – “[God] desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Tools for Evangelizing
- Have a solid understanding of the Gospel
- Listen to people
- Be prepared with personal stories that reflect Jesus
- Luke 12:12 – “For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”
Both Word and Deed
- We are called to both speak the word and live the message.
- Colossians 3:17 – “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
- Romans 10:14 – “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed?”
- 2 Corinthians 5:20 – “We are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us.”
Reaching People Is a Journey
- Learn about the people you serve.
- 1 Corinthians 9:22 – “I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.”
Reaching People Is a Team Effort
- 1 Corinthians 3:5–6 – “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.”
- Mark 6:7 – “He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two.”
- Luke 5:18–20 – The friends of the paralyzed man lower him to Jesus through the roof—the power of partnership in faith.
The Why Behind Evangelism
- We are compelled by the love of Christ, not guilt or obligation.
- 1 Corinthians 13:1–2 – Without love, our efforts are meaningless.
- 2 Corinthians 5:14 – “For the love of Christ controls us…”
- John 13:35 – “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
God Is in Control
- We are stewards, not saviors.
- Ephesians 1:4–5 – Chosen and adopted according to His purpose.
- John 15:5 – “Apart from Me you can do nothing.”
Every Believer Has a Responsibility
- Colossians 4:3–6 – “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders… let your speech always be gracious.”
There Is Urgency
- Romans 13:11 – “Salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.”
- John 9:4 – “We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day.”
The G.O.S.P.E.L.
- God created us to be with Him – Genesis 1–2
- Our sins separate us from God – Genesis 3
- Sins cannot be removed by good deeds – Genesis 4 – Malachi 4
- Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again – Matthew, Mark, Luke, John
- Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life – John 3:16, John 5:24
- Life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever – Acts 2, Revelation 21–22
Salvation Prayer
- Believe in your heart and speak with your mouth.
- Romans 10:9–10 – “If you confess with your mouth… and believe in your heart… you will be saved.”
- Leading someone includes:
- Helping them understand, accept, and verbalize their faith in Jesus.
What NOT to Do
- Don’t lack heart – People sense insincerity.
- Don’t try to sell Jesus like a product.
- Don’t act like a sage who fixes problems but never discusses Jesus.
